About Dominion of Canada General Insurance

Dominion of Canada General Insurance logo

Dominion of Canada is a Canadian insurer that was established in 1887. The company has deep Canadian roots. The first chief executive of the company was Sir John A. MacDonald, Canada’s first Prime Minister.

The company operated until 2013, when it was acquired by The Travelers Companies, an American insurance company and became part of Travelers Insurance Canada. Even though it’s owned by Travelers, Dominion insurance coverage is still available. Personal car insurance and home insurance is offered by Travelers and underwritten by Dominion.

There is also an opportunity to get covered through Chieftain Insurance, a simplified option for drivers who have straightforward needs.
