What is Aviva Journey?

Aviva Journey is a free and voluntary usage based insurance program that is available through Aviva insurance. It uses a smartphone app to track and assess your driving data. Based on your performance you are assigned a discount. You must be an Aviva customer to qualify for the program.

The car insurance discount is the main selling feature of the program - you save 10% immediately for enrolling. But you need to activate the app within 15 days of receiving sign-up instructions.

You can then save up to 20% off your next policy based on your driving habits. This discount will be applied at renewal time.

How does Aviva Journey work?

Aviva Journey works similarly to other UBI programs. If you are an existing Aviva customer, you can join anytime. If you have coverage with another insurer, you can join when your existing policy comes up for renewal. Either way, you’ll save 10% just for signing up.

There are no trial periods with this program. It requires you to accumulate at least 120 days of data and a minimum of 1,000km to qualify for your personalized discount.

Here’s how it works:

Once you sign up, you will get a welcome email and SMS with registration instructions.
Download the app.
Log in and accept the Terms of Use and accept permission requests.
The app uses sensors to score your driving.
You will be rewarded for safe speeds, control, smoothness, and attentiveness.
The app will record all your trips.
It will display your latest trips on the dashboard (date, length, time, map display for each trip.
Your dashboard will display your driving score.

How is the driving score calculated for Aviva Journey?

There are six main driving factors the program uses to monitor and score your driving:

Speed: Driving within the speed limit. Driving at a consistent speed.
Cornering: Corning smooth and with control.
Braking: Avoiding sudden braking, braking smoothly.
Acceleration: Gradual acceleration.
Context: Understanding the context of your actions behind the wheel.
Distracted driving: Staying focused on the road and not using your phone while in the vehicle.

What will I see on the Aviva Journey app?

There are three main types of information you will see on the app:

Trip details: Get your driving stats in real-time.
Driving score: View your safety score and how much you save. This is calculated based on your driving data.
Tips and advice: Get a score breakdown and actionable tips to improve your driving.
